Speechless

Some random blabber for you.

So I woke up this morning with the same thought I’ve had every morning for the last few weeks……I really need to work on a blog post.  I can come up with all kinds of excuses for being such a slacker.  Four baseball and softball games a week (courtesy of the niece and nephew), basketball games, a demanding job and trying to keep up with regular family life makes for one busy and exhausted gal.  However, this is what I love to do, and no amount of “busy” should keep me from doing what I love.  There’s no excuse for that.  Considering this…..here I am!  So when I logged in and saw it’s been THREE MONTHS since my last post…………SPEECHLESS!!

On another note, I live in Brevard County,  Florida, which is a little over an hour from Orlando.  The tragic events that have happened there over the past week have really felt way too close to home.  It is hard to escape thinking about it when it’s on every news channel, every website, all over social media and in the mouths of my friends and family.  I just don’t understand how so much hatred could fill one human being’s body to make them take the lives of others just for doing nothing at all, but simply being themselves.  It makes me so angry!  And then I see some of the ignorant posts on Facebook from people automatically pointing fingers at this or that.  How about we first finish mourning the loss of 49 Americans and then maybe…..just maybe…..we can understand that the shooter (a/k/a many other choice words I won’t quite use right now) is really the one to blame here.  Sure, there might be other things that can be done to try and prevent this or that, but ultimately, put that pointing finger away for now!  What ever happened to accountability?  Again…….SPEECHLESS!!

On a more positive note, I am picking back up on my children’s book.  I basically have it finished and just need to fine tune a few things (names of characters, towns, etc.) but I feel pretty damn good about it so far.  I have been hitting a wall on coming up with the specific names, but hopefully some creative bug will slap me on my head soon.  Anybody have any suggestions?

Random Remarks

To make up for my pathetic post last week (all like 5 words of it..haha), I actually do have some updates for you guys.

I’ll start by telling you that I had an AMAZING time at Jeepin’ with Judd!  We were able to go on 5 trail rides and rode the moderate obstacle course.  It rained a good chunk of the day Saturday….but mud and Jeeps go together like peanut butter and jelly so this was obviously a non-issue.  This year’s event had a much bigger turnout than last years and there were some growing pains, but it was still a blast.  Here are some pictures for you!

Onto other things now.  My husband and I just had to deal with something that was so devastating to us.  It may seem silly to some of you, but it was a punch in the gut to us.  Early last week my husband came across a dog that the Sheriff’s office found running in and out of traffic on a busy highway.  They called animal control out and were told that she would likely be destroyed within two weeks because she was a pit mix.  Obviously, we couldn’t let that happen, so he brought her home with him.  We grew so incredibly attached to her in such a short amount of time.  She was THE BEST DOG EVER!  She was less than a year old, but was well behaved, housebroken, loving, affectionate, cuddly….just perfect.  Seems like it would be a no-brainer to keep her, but we had more factors in the equation to consider.  First off, we have two (almost) 16 year old cats that would absolutely disown us if we kept her.  We tried introducing them and it didn’t go well at all.  I know we could’ve given it time, but I really didn’t want to make their last few years of life miserable.  Secondly, we have an almost nonexistent yard.  She wouldn’t have room to run and play.  And third, we like to fly by the seat of our pants and didn’t think it would be fair to pass her off to babysitters so often.  Anyway…you know where this is going….we found a new home for her Wednesday.  We did update her on all her shots and got her all squared away with heartworm and flea prevention.  She’s in a wonderful home now and the new owner even named her Kelly (our last name) in honor of us saving her.  It still sucked and we both cried like little babies, but alas….it’s over.  Here’s Babygirl….n/k/a Kelly.

I still miss her, but the new owner said we could visit anytime we want.

So while we were dealing with this whole dog drama, I got a phone call that my Grandma is going to be dying any day now.  Her last rites were even given.  So for the last two days, I’ve just been staring at my phone waiting for the inevitable.  It’s a terrible feeling.  I know that she is ready though and she lived a long life.  It also still sucks, but that’s life for you.

So believe it or not…..with all the ickiness lately, I do have a silver lining.  Book ideas have been flowing like hot lava lately.  I have one idea for a children’s book that I’m crazy excited about!  It’s something that hasn’t been done yet, but I see so many possibilities with it.  I’ll obviously have more on that as time passes.  I also came up with another idea that I’m really excited about for an adult fiction book.  I’m making my notes, but trying to focus on one thing at a time.  It’s just exciting for me because I was having such a tough time brainstorming stuff initially.  Now it’s just coming to me left and right.  Maybe with gloom comes gain.  I don’t know, but whatever it is, I’ll welcome it with open arms.

Another incredibly exciting bit of news……The Walking Dead starts in 2 days!!!!  Woohoo!!!

I did it!  (Insert Round of Applause)

So it’s not even 6:00 am on Friday morning and I am on my way out the door to head to Jeepin’ with Judd!  So this will be my quickest post yet.  Please excuse any grammatical errors.  I just wanted to send you all a quick update.  I FINALLY HAVE A GREAT IDEA!  It’s for a children’s book and it’s not a poetry book, but I feel like it’s pretty darn brilliant!  I haven’t seen it done yet, which is an obstacle I kept encountering.  More on this later…..had to meet my one a month quota.  I’ll have some updated Jeepin pictures too!  Have a great weekend!

Friday Frills

Soooo…..I’m not gonna lie.  I have no idea what to post about today, but am trying my hardest to stick to my resolution of doing one post every week.  Technically, it has been over a week since my last, but I’m just aiming for one every work week, regardless of what day of the week.  So, here you go!  TA-DAAA!!

I don’t really have any exciting updates on my writing, other than I’m still doing it!  That is a huge accomplishment for me!  I’m not as excited about the direction of my book as I was when I started, but I am listening to the advice of brilliant minds and I am just going to keep writing!  I can always change things after it’s finished.  The goal is to just FINISH IT!

Other life updates…..

I’ve watched a few new movies lately.  I saw The Revenant, which was a great movie.  I swear I was freezing the entire movie, but that might’ve just been as a result of excellent cinematography.  Acting was great, storyline was great and scenery was amazing.  I’m not completely thrilled with the ending, but that’s just because I’m picky about endings.  I also saw The Martian finally.  Excellent film.  Matt Damon was wonderful.  FYI…I liked the ending.  Then, I saw Everest, which I also liked very much.  However, it reaffirmed to me that I will NEVER, EVER go climb any mountain, of any type, ever, ever, ever.  I am petrified of steep stuff and this movie is just  smothered in steep stuff.  It was sad though.  Last movie I saw this week…..and it’s an older one….Dazed and Confused.  It was a recommendation and I really liked it.  I’m not really sure why I haven’t watched it before, but better late than never I guess.

I’m failing a little on my resolution of five books a month.  I’m just about done with number two.  I guess I can still do it if I really try…..but I’m not too optimistic.

I guess the only other thing I have coming up is a Jeep trip that I’m really anxious for.  It’s called Jeepin’ with Judd and it’s a blast.  It’s just a 3 day event put on by the Sheriff of Polk County, Florida.

Here is a picture from last year’s event.  Our Jeep is second from the right.  This was just one tiny group on a trail ride.  There are a ton of more Jeeps that go to these events, but the trail rides are broken into small groups.

Here’s another picture.  This is the hubby flexing on a ramp.

The Jeep has undergone some modifications in the last year, so I will post some updated photos after this year’s event.

Anyway….sorry for this “filler” post, but I met my weekly “requirement,” so I’m happy.  As always, I appreciate you guys.

Anyone else have any fun stuff going on?

New Year…Mission: Butt in Gear

Yikes!  What a rude awakening to my new year.  I’ve been off of work the last week and a half and completely took full advantage of it.  I don’t think I’ve ever been so relaxed in my entire life.   And as we all know, sometimes relaxation = pure laziness…I’m talking jammies all day kind of laziness.  So, as I logged in today to write this, I realized it’s been 24 days since my last post!  Ouch!!!!  This can’t be good for my “one post per week” resolution.  Plus, with all that time off, I only wrote one single page of a story.  One page…that’s it!

So as much as this bums me out, I will simply brush it off and get my BUTT IN GEAR!  Holidays are a crazy hectic time and I’m just going to chalk it up to that.  Now to get back on track, here’s my first weekly post of 2016!

On a personal note, the holidays were great!  I finished another book, which was great!  It was a Tami Hoag book called Cold, Cold Heart.  I liked it, but was able to predict the ending.  Still really good though.

Also, a quick mention for Star Wars.  My husband made me watch episodes 4, 5 and 6 right after Christmas so we were able to see episode 7 during our break.  Absolutely AMAZING!  I now need an Ewok and BB-8 in my life.  Seriously.  The movie was great.  My husband cried 3 times…yes, you heard me right…3 times.  I’m not sure when episode 8 is coming out, but I can guarantee I’m not going to be happy waiting that long.

Lastly, I started watching Making a Murderer on Netflix!  I’m only on Episode 7, so I don’t know the outcome.  However, I am already raging about it.  I’m furious!  Like “steam blowing out of my ears” furious.  How in the world does something like this happen??  How???  Someone please explain this to me.  I’m dying to know.

Resolution Time Already?

Can you believe the new year is right around the corner?  Where did the last 12 months go?  No, seriously…where did they go?  I feel like I was trying to figure out my 2015 New Year’s resolutions just a few weeks ago.  Anyway, here we go again!  Time to start thinking of what changes I would like to make in 2016.  I’ve decided to make writing a key resolution for the New Year.  Specifically though, I’m not sure what to do.  Of course I’m doing the good ol’ classics too….you know….lose weight, eat healthy, exercise, be more organized, try not to complain as much….blah, blah, blah.

So this writing one….I feel like I need to be really specific to have the best chance at success.  I was thinking of these:

  1. Write at least one blog post every week.
  2. Write a short story once a week.
  3. Read five new books a month.
  4. Turn off my inner critic.  (this one is going to be HARD)

It’s not much, but it’s a start.  Do any of you have any writing resolutions that have worked for you?  I’m always open for suggestions.

FINALLY!

spoiler-warning

I figured I’d grace you with another blog about me.  Not aspiring writer me.  Just plain ol’ me.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this, but I’m a HUGE Walking Dead fan.  So as you can imagine, I was tragically devastated about a month ago as Glenn fell from a garbage dumpster to his “death.”  It wasn’t quite as bad as when Hershel died.  I almost completely quit watching the show after that gut-wrenching scene (after I finished balling my eyes out).  It was pretty close though.  I spewed some four-letter words like they were the only words left in the dictionary.  But alas, social media gave me hope…..was Glenn really alive?  There were shiny, shimmery glimmers of hope at every corner.  “He wasn’t in the “In Memoriam” section.”  “He wasn’t on The Talking Dead.”  “There was a hole under the dumpster…that’s how he got away.”  I never lost hope.  So after waiting ONE LONG ASS MONTH, we FINALLY got our answer in last night’s episode.  Hallelujah!  Glenn is alive!

Now, we can all sleep soundly at night.  I know I can.  I have heard some terrible things about upcoming episodes…especially once Negan arrives….but for now I will savor in the current bliss I am feeling.  I’ll just take this one episode at a time.

On another note, I also saw The Peanuts Movie this weekend.  I thought it was very cute and funny and was a wonderful throwback to easier times.  I’m very happy that they were able to keep it very true to form and didn’t feel the need to litter it with a bunch of current pop culture trends.  I’m not sure I could’ve handled a twerking Charlie Brown.

Hopefully you all had a wonderful weekend!  Did any of you catch any great movies?
