Random Remarks

To make up for my pathetic post last week (all like 5 words of it..haha), I actually do have some updates for you guys.

I’ll start by telling you that I had an AMAZING time at Jeepin’ with Judd!  We were able to go on 5 trail rides and rode the moderate obstacle course.  It rained a good chunk of the day Saturday….but mud and Jeeps go together like peanut butter and jelly so this was obviously a non-issue.  This year’s event had a much bigger turnout than last years and there were some growing pains, but it was still a blast.  Here are some pictures for you!

Onto other things now.  My husband and I just had to deal with something that was so devastating to us.  It may seem silly to some of you, but it was a punch in the gut to us.  Early last week my husband came across a dog that the Sheriff’s office found running in and out of traffic on a busy highway.  They called animal control out and were told that she would likely be destroyed within two weeks because she was a pit mix.  Obviously, we couldn’t let that happen, so he brought her home with him.  We grew so incredibly attached to her in such a short amount of time.  She was THE BEST DOG EVER!  She was less than a year old, but was well behaved, housebroken, loving, affectionate, cuddly….just perfect.  Seems like it would be a no-brainer to keep her, but we had more factors in the equation to consider.  First off, we have two (almost) 16 year old cats that would absolutely disown us if we kept her.  We tried introducing them and it didn’t go well at all.  I know we could’ve given it time, but I really didn’t want to make their last few years of life miserable.  Secondly, we have an almost nonexistent yard.  She wouldn’t have room to run and play.  And third, we like to fly by the seat of our pants and didn’t think it would be fair to pass her off to babysitters so often.  Anyway…you know where this is going….we found a new home for her Wednesday.  We did update her on all her shots and got her all squared away with heartworm and flea prevention.  She’s in a wonderful home now and the new owner even named her Kelly (our last name) in honor of us saving her.  It still sucked and we both cried like little babies, but alas….it’s over.  Here’s Babygirl….n/k/a Kelly.

I still miss her, but the new owner said we could visit anytime we want.

So while we were dealing with this whole dog drama, I got a phone call that my Grandma is going to be dying any day now.  Her last rites were even given.  So for the last two days, I’ve just been staring at my phone waiting for the inevitable.  It’s a terrible feeling.  I know that she is ready though and she lived a long life.  It also still sucks, but that’s life for you.

So believe it or not…..with all the ickiness lately, I do have a silver lining.  Book ideas have been flowing like hot lava lately.  I have one idea for a children’s book that I’m crazy excited about!  It’s something that hasn’t been done yet, but I see so many possibilities with it.  I’ll obviously have more on that as time passes.  I also came up with another idea that I’m really excited about for an adult fiction book.  I’m making my notes, but trying to focus on one thing at a time.  It’s just exciting for me because I was having such a tough time brainstorming stuff initially.  Now it’s just coming to me left and right.  Maybe with gloom comes gain.  I don’t know, but whatever it is, I’ll welcome it with open arms.

Another incredibly exciting bit of news……The Walking Dead starts in 2 days!!!!  Woohoo!!!

I did it!  (Insert Round of Applause)

So it’s not even 6:00 am on Friday morning and I am on my way out the door to head to Jeepin’ with Judd!  So this will be my quickest post yet.  Please excuse any grammatical errors.  I just wanted to send you all a quick update.  I FINALLY HAVE A GREAT IDEA!  It’s for a children’s book and it’s not a poetry book, but I feel like it’s pretty darn brilliant!  I haven’t seen it done yet, which is an obstacle I kept encountering.  More on this later…..had to meet my one a month quota.  I’ll have some updated Jeepin pictures too!  Have a great weekend!

Friday Frills

Soooo…..I’m not gonna lie.  I have no idea what to post about today, but am trying my hardest to stick to my resolution of doing one post every week.  Technically, it has been over a week since my last, but I’m just aiming for one every work week, regardless of what day of the week.  So, here you go!  TA-DAAA!!

I don’t really have any exciting updates on my writing, other than I’m still doing it!  That is a huge accomplishment for me!  I’m not as excited about the direction of my book as I was when I started, but I am listening to the advice of brilliant minds and I am just going to keep writing!  I can always change things after it’s finished.  The goal is to just FINISH IT!

Other life updates…..

I’ve watched a few new movies lately.  I saw The Revenant, which was a great movie.  I swear I was freezing the entire movie, but that might’ve just been as a result of excellent cinematography.  Acting was great, storyline was great and scenery was amazing.  I’m not completely thrilled with the ending, but that’s just because I’m picky about endings.  I also saw The Martian finally.  Excellent film.  Matt Damon was wonderful.  FYI…I liked the ending.  Then, I saw Everest, which I also liked very much.  However, it reaffirmed to me that I will NEVER, EVER go climb any mountain, of any type, ever, ever, ever.  I am petrified of steep stuff and this movie is just  smothered in steep stuff.  It was sad though.  Last movie I saw this week…..and it’s an older one….Dazed and Confused.  It was a recommendation and I really liked it.  I’m not really sure why I haven’t watched it before, but better late than never I guess.

I’m failing a little on my resolution of five books a month.  I’m just about done with number two.  I guess I can still do it if I really try…..but I’m not too optimistic.

I guess the only other thing I have coming up is a Jeep trip that I’m really anxious for.  It’s called Jeepin’ with Judd and it’s a blast.  It’s just a 3 day event put on by the Sheriff of Polk County, Florida.

Here is a picture from last year’s event.  Our Jeep is second from the right.  This was just one tiny group on a trail ride.  There are a ton of more Jeeps that go to these events, but the trail rides are broken into small groups.

Here’s another picture.  This is the hubby flexing on a ramp.

The Jeep has undergone some modifications in the last year, so I will post some updated photos after this year’s event.

Anyway….sorry for this “filler” post, but I met my weekly “requirement,” so I’m happy.  As always, I appreciate you guys.

Anyone else have any fun stuff going on?

Welcome to my World

If you were to look up the word “quitter” in the dictionary, you’d see my smiling face staring back at you.  At least the “old” me.  Hence the name of my blog….”7th Time’s a Charm.”  I can’t tell you how many times in my life I have dreamed about becoming a writer.  I also couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve attempted (a/k/a trying to come up with an idea…making some notes…and quitting) to make that dream a reality.  Definitely more than seven….but “158th Time’s a Charm” just didn’t have the same ring to it.  Plus, seven is always a lucky number, right?  Anyway, I have decided to take another stab at it.  This time feels different though.  As I get older, I really sense the urgency of being able to fulfill my dreams.  I only have one life to live, so I better at least try to make it the one I want.

I am going to document every step of this journey and share it with you.  I hope doing this blog and having your support will keep me motivated.  I also hope that maybe I can inspire other people to finally try and make their dreams come true as I fully intend to finally succeed this time.

I guess I should tell you a little about myself to get started.  I’m 36 years old and live in sunny Florida.  I’m married to an amazing man who is undoubtedly my soul mate.  We don’t have any children…well at least not in human form.  We have two cats that are the apple and banana of my eyes.  They really are the most amazing cats in the whole entire universe (as I often tell them). Yes, that is them below laying on top of laundry…haha!  Those are my boys!

IMG_1617I finally graduated from college in August of this year with a BA in Political Science.  I’ve been working in the legal field for eighteen long years now.  I love traveling.  I just wish I could do more of it.  I ADORE Disney.  It’s really an unhealthy addiction.  We go as often as we’re able to.  If I’m not at Disney, I’m usually listening to Disney music or watching Disney movies.  I can’t help it.  It’s just magical.  When I’m not being a complete Disney dork, my husband and I really enjoy off-roading in our Jeep!  We’ve only been doing this about a year and a half, but have really embraced it.  The feeling of going through mud, climbing hills and maneuvering through the woods in a naked Jeep is really a feeling like no other. Here I am strutting my stuff!

Jenn Jeep 6I have many other interests, which I’m sure I’ll touch on along the way….but for now, it’s a start.

I look forward to sharing my journey with you all!!
